My husband Stephen and I would like to welcome you to our 200-year old home, where we practice ancient arts -- pottery and poetry. Our children have grown and flown. Now we grow vegetables. Our work is inextricably woven into the fabric of our lives.
I’ve made pots for 45 years. For a while it was musical instruments made of clay. I spent 10 years among the Amuesha of Oxapampa, Peru, in an effort to build a sustainable pottery business with them and to work for their cultural survival. For the past 30 years I have been here making pots and more pots. Big ones, little ones, smooth and rough.
I care about bellies and lips -- how the handle feels. I want your morning “cuppa” to help make your day better! And I want each pot to be telling part of a story.
On vacation we spend a lot of time in swamps and wetlands, especially looking for herons and cranes. Herons are loners -- they focus and meditate. Cranes are ancient symbols of happiness, harmony and marital bliss. These ancient birds (like us) with their 10 million-year-old habits (like us) need us to pay attention.
May we all prosper on this amazing earth.
